More Americans relied on the Internet this year for campaign information than ever before. Personally, I set up several widgets on my iGoogle homepage that directly linked me to some of my favorite Web sites. I especially like Electoral-vote.com and am still reading it daily even though the election is over. After all, how many people have noticed that Nebraska (one of two states that splits its electoral votes) saw the 2nd District chalked up in the Obama column on Saturday? That will mean one more electoral vote for the Democrats. But, the point here is that blogs keep us very connected to topics that are of interest to us. They allow us to be “in the know” and the first to access information. This has led companies to become interested. How do they adapt this personal style of communication to promote their brands?
One of the ways they do this is to entertain. The election brought us entertainment in the form of comic relief through video. Before I move on past the election, I’d like to recap my favorite videos from the presidential campaign.
Who could forget that early lampoon from Jib Jab at the beginning of the campaign?

If I had to choose just one video from the campaign it would be this remake of the Budweiser Wassup? ad. The original creator leased the concept to Budweiser for five years. These are the orignal actors. Billiant!

I love Jib Jab’s Time for Some Campaigning video its hilarious and definately needed after such a stressfull election. I couldn’t stop laughing when Barack’s every other word during his solo was ‘change’ and he’s skipping through the forest with unicorns and other forest animals. I appreciate that all of these campaign videos and skits offer consumers a much needed escape during a time of seemingly non-stop election ads. You have to give honorable mention to this years election episodes in TV series: While I’m not a big fan of SouthPark, the episode about the 2008 elections was fantastic. I think new media has allowed us to break the tension and put some perspective on elections that are otherwise stressful to all.
